Mega Crit dropped a new Early Access trailer for Slay the Spire 2 that confirms the game hits Steam on March 5. The biggest reveal is official co-op support for up to four players.
The trailer shows multiplayer in action. Players appear to interact together on the map screen and make group decisions when choosing between relics. The Steam page now lists “Online Co-op” and confirms the four-player count.
Co-op represents a major shift for the franchise. The original Slay the Spire was strictly single-player. Players have been experimenting with co-op mods like “Together in Spire” for years, and the official Slay the Spire board game is cooperative. Now Mega Crit is building multiplayer directly into the sequel.
The trailer also confirms the Defect is returning as a playable character. The robot was one of four characters in the original game. A mysterious character appears at the end of the trailer but their identity remains unclear.
The footage suggests substantial content at launch. The trailer showcases multiple characters, enemies, and systems through an animated lore-style presentation. Some viewers expressed surprise at how much appears ready for Early Access.
Mega Crit originally launched the first Slay the Spire in Early Access back in 2017. The developer spent nearly two years balancing cards, relics, and character mechanics based on player data before the full release. The game became a defining title in the roguelike deckbuilder genre.
The sequel appears set up for a similar Early Access journey. The Steam page indicates the team needs extensive player feedback for balance tuning. Roguelike deckbuilders depend on massive play samples to identify broken synergies and underpowered strategies.
