AdHoc Studio is working on a Critical Role video game while simultaneously developing Dispatch Season 2. The studio says the licensed project won’t interfere with plans for the sequel.
Critical Role’s CEO reportedly wants Dispatch Season 2 delivered “as quickly as possible.” The statement signals the company’s eagerness to build on the first season’s momentum while AdHoc manages both projects.
Dispatch released as an episodic narrative game earlier this year. The first season received an incrediblystrong reception from players and has driven interest in a follow-up.
Parallel development is standard practice in game studios when teams are properly structured. Voice acting schedules remain flexible and don’t typically bottleneck production timelines. The Critical Role game reportedly doesn’t require performance capture, which further reduces potential resource conflicts.
AdHoc can reuse existing technology, art assets, and systems from Dispatch Season one. This should accelerate Season two’s development compared to the first season, which faced funding uncertainty during production.
The first season featured multiple branching endings. How AdHoc addresses continuity for Season two remains unclear. The studio could follow a canon ending, shift to a new team, or adopt an anthology approach.
What’s still unknown
No release date or production timeline has been announced for Dispatch Season two. The project’s exact development stage hasn’t been confirmed beyond the studio’s commitment to moving forward.
Details about the Critical Role game also remain limited. AdHoc hasn’t yet disclosed the game’s genre, platforms, or release window.
