Players trying to reinstall Anthem on PC are hitting a wall. Multiple reports indicate the EA app refuses to let some owners download the game they purchased.
The EA app tells affected users they don’t own Anthem at all. The download button simply doesn’t appear. Others see the game in their library but can’t trigger an install.
One workaround emerged for lucky players who still have Anthem installed. They can launch the game directly from its executable file. The EA app might not recognize ownership, but the game itself still runs.
EA and BioWare announced shutting down Anthem’s servers on January 12, 2026. Shortly after this announcement last August, Anthem disappeared from all digital storefronts, preventing players from purchasing a game that would ultimately disappear less than six months later.
Players who wanted to hop into one final match of BioWare’s shooter can no longer do so if the game isn’t already installed on their computer, despite Anthem having still a few days ahead before shutting down completely. Those who can still access the game may struggle to find companions for a match, a week before its sunset.
