Anyone’s Legend took down Gen.G in a stunning Swiss Stage upset at the 2025 League of Legends World Championship. The LPL squad moved to 2-0 with the best-of-one victory while Gen.G dropped to 1-1.
The win marks AL’s second straight takedown of an LCK powerhouse. They opened Swiss with a victory over Hanwha Life Esports before knocking off tournament favorites Gen.G in Round two.
Swiss format puts AL one series away from the Knockout Stage. Gen.G now faces a more dangerous path through the 1-1 pool where they’ll need to stabilize before reaching qualification matches.
The draft told the entire story. AL locked in Poppy support for Kael, Taliyah mid for Shanks, and Qiyana jungle for Tarzan. Gen.G responded with multiple dash champions straight into AL’s anti-mobility wall.
Kael delivered a masterclass on Poppy. His Steadfast Presence repeatedly shut down Gen.G’s engage attempts while his Keeper’s Verdict ultimates created crucial numbers advantages. The most critical moment came in a late-game teamfight when Kael interrupted Ruler’s ultimate, swinging momentum decisively toward AL.
The support also roamed proactively to track Canyon’s early pathing. Gen.G’s star jungler struggled to find his usual impact as AL’s mid-support duo kept tabs on his movements.
Tarzan’s Qiyana and Shanks’ Taliyah completed the execution. Tarzan found explosive flanks around river terrain while Shanks placed walls that split Gen.G’s formation and trapped carries. The combination gave AL full control over objective fights.
Gen.G’s composition simply couldn’t function. Duro’s Alistar couldn’t find clean engages through Poppy’s zone denial. Canyon’s ganks fell flat against AL’s tracking. The dash-heavy lineup that should have enabled aggressive plays instead became a liability.
This continues a familiar pattern. LCK teams have historically struggled against Qiyana in international play. LPL squads like AL know how to maximize the champion’s pick potential and terrain control.
What comes next
AL enters the 2-0 pool needing one more series win to reach Knockouts. Gen.G drops into the 1-1 pool where they’ll face another team with a split record in Round three.
For Gen.G, the 1-1 start represents an unusual stumble. The organization went 3-0 through Swiss Stage at Worlds 2023. Now they face increased bracket volatility with elite opponents still lurking in their pool.
AL’s coach Tabe earned credit from the community for the draft preparation. The blind first-rotation Poppy pick baited Gen.G into dash champions before revealing the full counter-composition.
