Asmongold‘s rehashed rhetoric about “manly” games hit another snag recently, as his attempt to start a Kingdom Come: Deliverance II playthrough quickly went south. After hyping up the game for months, the streamer quit before the title could even get going.
Though he’s ever entrenched in scandal, as any influencer will be, the latest Asmongold controversy is one entirely of his own making. In another political tirade, the Twitch and Kick streamer recently hit out at modern games not being made “by guys for guys,” citing a prevalence of women in games development as a problem for the industry.
The back-and-forth this sparked hit a wall recently by Asmongold’s own hand, with a new clip showing the streamer’s own impatience with a game he’d classify as adequately ‘manly’. The game in question would be Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which Asmongold’s streams have been hyping for months. The streamer even stated explicitly that he’d “play the f*ck out of the game.”
In a recent clip, Asmongold’s first contact with the title quickly goes to the dogs. After struggling with the game’s early mechanics and tutorial prompts, he made the decision to bail on the session entirely.
Before closing the game, Asmongold claimed that he was entirely confused by the title, saying “I just don’t, understand, really, what I’m doing.” He also added that he really doesn’t like playing through “longform RPG games” on stream.
As many have pointed out, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is exactly the kind of game that punishes this approach. The Warhorse Studios RPG is built around historical accuracy and simulation-style mechanics, with brutal combat out-the-gate that requires patience and investment.
The pattern repeats
Viewers have pointed out this isn’t an isolated incident; Asmongold has hyped up challenging games before, only to back down when the cameras are rolling.
Monster Hunter, Armored Core VI, and even The Witcher 3‘s tutorial have produced similar results, leaving Asmongold’s rhetoric all the more questionable.
