A fresh gameplay trailer for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse dropped, giving fans their best look yet at how the upcoming game actually plays. The roughly 90-second video packs in combat sequences, platforming challenges, and a boss encounter while developer commentary explains key decisions behind the project.

The footage showcases fluid whip combat with deliberate animation pauses that sell each hit’s impact. One standout platforming moment features the player wall-jumping up a vertical shaft where spikes shoot out if you stay still too long. The trailer also includes boss fight footage that shows off the game’s mechanical readability.

Developer commentary reveals that the French team of Motion Twin is setting the game in France. They joked about being “arrogant enough” to make that choice for a Belmont story. More importantly, they confirmed the project is ditching its “roguelite roots” to deliver what they call a “large sprawling action adventure game.”

The trailer hints at a structure involving both a town area and the castle as distinct locations. This aligns with the game being a Metroidvania, meaning players can expect an interconnected world map with ability-gated progression and backtracking as new powers unlock.

Castlevania‘s Metroidvania era began with Symphony of the Night and continued through multiple GBA and DS entries. These games defined the exploration-heavy formula that countless indie titles still copy today. Belmont’s Curse represents a rare new mainline entry for a franchise that has seen long gaps between major releases.

The trailer stops short of announcing when players can actually get their hands on the game. The only information is that Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will come out in 2026, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
