Destiny brought renewed attention to a controversial set of clips showing Hasan Piker and his dog Kaya during a recent livestream. The footage originally circulated roughly six months ago but has resurfaced after Destiny replayed and discussed the moments on his own stream.
The clips show Hasan managing Kaya on a raised dog bed platform during a broadcast. The setup appears to be part of “place” training, where dogs learn to stay on a designated spot for extended periods. Kaya, a Tibetan Mastiff, remains on the small elevated cot while Hasan streams.
Two key moments anchor the controversy. In the first clip, the platform appears to shift or break beneath Kaya, and Hasan reacts with visible concern. In the second clip, Kaya yelps while on the platform, and viewers claim Hasan’s hand movement suggests he pressed a button on a remote training collar. The timing of the yelp and his body language form the basis for these allegations.
Remote training collars, commonly called shock collars or e-collars, deliver various stimuli including beeps, vibrations, or static corrections. These devices remain divisive in dog training circles. Professional trainers debate their use, with some accepting them only as last-resort tools for dangerous behaviors under expert supervision. Force-free trainers and animal welfare advocates oppose them entirely due to risks of fear and stress.
Clips from what happened were nicknamed “Dogtober 7th” and “K9/11” by online communities when they first appeared. Destiny and Hasan have a long-running public rivalry, which explains why Destiny chose to revisit the footage months later. His segment reframed the clips for his audience and kicked off more chatter across streaming communities.
