Fans of the Deus Ex series are still waiting for a new game, and it looks like they’ll be waiting a while longer. In a recent post, voice actor Elias Toufexis—who voiced protagonist Adam Jensen in Human Revolution and Mankind Divided—stated that there won’t be any new instalment in 2026 because the IP’s owners are “psychopaths.”
As 2026 rolls in, the gap between the last Deus Ex game (Mankind Divided) and now will soon amount to a whole decade. Not only did that last title end on a cliffhanger, but fresh salt has been poured into the wound with the apparent cancellation of a Deus Ex game this year, in the wake of mass layoffs at Eidos thanks to its owner, Embracer Group. All in all, fandom hope is wearing thin.
The Embracer Group has long been reviled by fans of games everywhere, with its mass acquisitions of IPs and studios leading to mass layoffs and project cancellations after a 2023 investment deal fell through, and it seems this perspective is shared by Elias Toufexis.
Toufexis, voice of Deus Ex protagonist Adam Jensen, recently posted on X about the number of projects he’s going to be involved in during 2026, showing Bungie’s Marathon and three NDA icons. Getting ahead of speculation, Jensen stated outright that “no Deus Ex because the people in charge are psychopaths.”
A franchise in freefall
While some may question the rhetoric’s presentation, very few gamers would disagree with Toufexis’ opinion on the Embracer Group. The entity’s failed gamble has caused widespread devastation across the industry, destroying projects and the livelihoods of developers, all while those that failed at the top escape without consequence.
As for fans of Deus Ex, Embracer’s IP hoarding leaves little room for hope. Aspyr’s Deus Ex remaster is on the horizon, but has been pushed back following criticisms from fans over lackluster trailer materials. This will likely be for the better and, though Aspyr’s catalogue of remasters is a mixed bag, there’s definitely a spark of hope here, if nothing else.
