Clix, one of Fortnite‘s top competitive players, has banned a 14-year-old viewer from his Twitch channel after the teen donated more than $36,000 within a single month. The massive financial support raised immediate red flags for Clix, who decided to take action rather than keep accepting the questionable funds.
The donations came in over several streams, eventually totaling an amount that would make most adults think twice. When Clix discovered the donor was only 14 years old, he directly addressed the situation during a livestream, saying he was worried about the excessive spending.
“I don’t wanna promote refunds, but bro…” Clix reportedly said on stream, suggesting he was considering returning the money. While it’s still not 100% clear if Clix has sent all the money back, banning the young fan makes it obvious he’s not cool with that kind of spending from someone so young.
The teenager apparently claimed the money was really theirs, saying it came from trading or “well-off” parents. Still, nobody has actually confirmed where the money came from, which just made the whole thing more worrying.
Tossing big donations around has become part of life for streamers lately, with fans often supporting their favorite creators through subs, bits, and direct gifts. The problem is, it’s way too easy for young viewers to give away thousands online, and these kinds of problems just keep popping up for streamers everywhere.
Clix, whose real name is Cody Conrod, plays Fortnite professionally with NRG Esports and has gathered a massive Twitch following—mostly made up of younger fans. That’s why this story stands out, showing just how complicated money can get between big-name streamers and their underage fans.
Twitch says users need to be at least 13, but the platform doesn’t make it very hard for minors to send serious cash. Because of that, streamers are often left with tough choices anytime they’re worried kids might be spending money they shouldn’t.
