Rasmus “Caps” Winther posted a candid reflection on his League of Legends career this week. The G2 Esports mid laner talked about how “scary” fast time has passed since he went pro.
“Years go by very fast,” Caps said in the statement to Sheep Esports. He described the rapid pace as both a sign he’s had fun and a source of disappointment.
The 25-year-old specifically noted he “always” wishes he had “gone further” despite his success. But rather than dwelling on what’s behind him, Caps made a clear promise about what’s ahead.
“I will do my best to make sure that this year counts,” he said. “For my tenth year in 2027, I will make it count even more.”
The message comes from one of the most accomplished Western players in League of Legends history. Caps won MSI 2019 with G2 and reached the World Championship finals twice—once with Fnatic in 2018 and again with G2 in 2019. He’s also collected multiple LEC titles throughout his career.
The 2027 reference is significant. It shows Caps is planning to compete for at least two more years, mapping out his career in multi-year arcs. That kind of longevity is rare in League of Legends esports, where most players peak early and step away in their early-to-mid twenties.
Still hungry after all these years
Caps started his professional career in 2017. By 2018, he was already making Worlds finals runs. Now entering his ninth season, he remains a franchise player for one of Europe’s biggest organizations.
The “gone further” comment likely refers to the one trophy that has eluded every Western team: a World Championship. Caps came closest in 2019 when G2’s superteam roster fell to FunPlus Phoenix in the finals.
