Ethan Klein’s Twitch channel has been hit with a massive 30-day ban for re-airing H3’s “Content Nuke” which simply highlighted previous videos from Hasan Piker. Just a day before, Piker earned himself a mere 24-hour suspension. The ban, which cited “glorifying extreme violence” as the justification, has caused a lot of anger across the streaming community.
The content in question was Klein’s “HasanAbi Content Nuke,” a segment where the YouTuber discusses Hasan and Twitch’s promotion of terrorism on their platform.
When Ethan re-uploaded this content on his own Twitch channel, merely featuring Hasan’s previous content that he wasn’t banned for, Twitch turned around and gave a hypocritical 30 day ban.
This glaring discrepancy in punishment has fuelled accusations that Twitch plays favorites with certain creators. Many viewers have pointed out that punishment for showing Hasan’s content, which he wasn’t even banned for in the first place, makes little sense from a platform claiming to enforce rules consistently.
“It’s utterly ridiculous,” said one community member. “H3 gets banned for a month for showing clips that are literally from Twitch itself, while the original creator walks away with barely a consequence.”
The situation adds to Twitch’s growing reputation for inconsistent moderation. The platform has repeatedly found itself under fire for seemingly arbitrary enforcement of its Terms of Service, with larger creators often appearing to receive more lenient treatment.
Klein and Piker have collaborated frequently in the past, with the two hosting a political show together on the H3 Podcast channel called, Leftovers. The two originally shared overlapping audiences and built a friendship on their shared interest in political commentary, making this messy divorce even more noticeable to their communities.
For H3, this ban could merely be a piece in a larger potential lawsuit against Twitch, but fans can expect one thing for certain. Ethan Klein won’t remain silent about what he sees as unfair treatment.
