Hasan Piker delivered a sharp message to his audience during a recent livestream. The political commentator urged liberals and particularly online leftists to stop taking political figures at face value.
“I always tell liberals and specifically leftists online, to wake the f up,” Piker said during the broadcast. He argued that people are being misled by surface-level messaging and political branding rather than looking at concrete positions and track records.
“All this stuff is disingenuous,” he continued. “You need to look at what a person actually represents.”
The core of his argument centered on political discernment. Piker pushed viewers to evaluate public figures based on their actual policies and actions rather than the labels they use or how they present themselves. He characterized much of online political discourse as manipulative and suggested his audience is too easily swayed by presentation over substance.
The clip called out Andrew Cuomo, who’s currently running for New York mayor. This isn’t new territory for Piker. The progressive commentator has long made the distinction between leftists and liberals a central theme of his content. He frequently argues that labels matter less than material outcomes and real-world policy impacts.
Piker built his massive following through direct and often confrontational political commentary. His content mixes news analysis with pop culture reactions and unfiltered takes on current events. The streamer regularly calls for more rigorous scrutiny of politicians and media narratives.
