IShowSpeed jumped from The STRAT tower in Las Vegas during a recent livestream. The popular content creator completed the 829-foot controlled descent without any issues.
A single frame from his stream went viral after viewers noticed what appeared to be a disconnected carabiner. The freeze frame showed what looked like a gap in the metal clip connecting Speed’s harness to the safety line.
The apparent equipment failure was actually a visual glitch. When Speed’s stream briefly lagged, the video compression created an optical illusion. Frame-by-frame analysis shows the carabiner was properly secured throughout the jump.
The metal clip’s spring-loaded gate was on the opposite side from what viewers could see. Video artifacts from the streaming interruption made the solid side of the carabiner blend with the background for one frame.
SkyJump isn’t a bungee jump. It uses a controlled descender system that regulates fall speed after an initial drop. Participants wear full-body harnesses attached to guide wires with multiple safety redundancies.
The STRAT attraction has operated for years with strict safety protocols. Staff perform multiple equipment checks before each jump. The system includes both primary and backup safety measures.
Speed experienced the standard SkyJump sequence. After stepping off the platform, he felt a brief free-fall sensation before the magnetic braking system engaged. The descender then controlled his speed down to the landing pad.
The streamer and his crew reviewed the concerning frame while still in their vehicle after the jump. They quickly realized it was a streaming error rather than an equipment problem.
No safety incidents were reported at the attraction. The STRAT hasn’t released any statements about equipment issues during Speed’s visit.
