Konami dropped an announcement trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, bringing three more games from the franchise to modern platforms. The collection includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel.
MGS4 is the real story here. The game launched as a PlayStation 3 exclusive in 2008 and has remained stuck there ever since. For over 15 years, the only official way to play this entry has been on Sony’s outdated hardware. That made completing a full series playthrough on modern systems impossible.
The PS3’s Cell processor architecture was widely blamed for the porting difficulties. Industry insiders have long claimed MGS4 once ran on Xbox 360 internally but never released due to storage limitations. The 360 used DVDs while PS3 had Blu-ray capacity.
According to the official Konami trailer, the collection is coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC through Steam. This marks MGS4’s first appearance outside the PS3 ecosystem and its debut on Microsoft and PC platforms entirely.
Peace Walker originally released on PSP in 2010 before getting an HD remaster. The game bridges important story gaps in the franchise timeline. was a Game Boy Color title from 2000 that successfully translated the stealth formula to handheld hardware. Some regions knew it simply as Metal Gear Solid without the Ghost Babel subtitle.
The original MGS4 was infamous for lengthy chapter install breaks on PS3, though later patches improved this. The game also featured PS3-specific references and branding that may need updates.
What Konami hasn’t said yet
Konami hasn’t revealed whether this is a native port or emulation. Performance targets like resolution and framerate remain unconfirmed. Release date and pricing are also missing.
Fans are questioning whether Metal Gear Online 2 will be included or if licensed content like iPod branding will be changed. The answer to both is likely no and yes respectively, but nothing is official yet.
