TL;DR
  • Chronicler finished his last LCK broadcast but will still cast at Worlds 2024 before retiring.
  • He's leaving Korea to return to the Netherlands for family and a career in law and human rights.
  • His casting partnership with Atlus helped define the LCK English broadcast for international fans.

Maurits “Chronicler” Meeusen delivered his final League of Legends Champions Korea broadcast yesterday, marking the end of his run as one of the league’s most beloved English casters. The Dutch commentator appeared visibly emotional during the farewell segment but quickly reassured fans with a message: “THANK U ALL SO MUCH WE’RE NOT DONE YET WORLDS IS NEXT.”

The timing makes sense. With the LCK season wrapped up and the World Championship starting in Berlin next week, Chronicler gets to close his casting career on the biggest stage in League of Legends. He’ll join the international broadcast team for what promises to be his final hurrah before stepping away from full-time esports commentary.

Chronicler joined the LCK English desk in 2021 and quickly became a fan favorite. His partnership with fellow caster Max “Atlus” Anderson defined much of the broadcast’s personality over the past few years. The duo balanced high-energy play-by-play with deep game knowledge and enough banter to keep even the slowest games entertaining.

Behind his departure lies a personal decision. Chronicler is returning to the Netherlands to reunite with his wife and family, who still live there. He’s also shifting careers, planning to work in his original field of law with a focus on human rights work. It’s a major life change that takes him away from Seoul’s broadcasting studios and back to his home country.

His impact on the LCK English broadcast can’t be overstated. Chronicler helped make Korean League of Legends accessible to international viewers during some of the league’s most dominant years. Whether breaking down complex drafts or losing his mind over another Gen.G Renekton pick, he brought enthusiasm and expertise that made late-night viewing worth it for fans across the world.

From Seoul to London

While his LCK days are over, Chronicler isn’t completely done with League. He’s hinted at possible co-streams in the future, particularly for LCK Challengers League matches. For now, though, all eyes turn to Worlds 2024, where he’ll get one more chance to call the game’s biggest plays on its biggest stage.

The World Championship runs through November with stops in Berlin, Paris, and a grand final in London. Having a familiar voice like Chronicler’s on the broadcast will help bridge the gap between regional leagues and the international tournament. After that, it’s back to the Netherlands and a new chapter outside of esports.
