Team Liquid announced that veteran top laner Impact is leaving the organization after their 2024 season ended. The departure marks the end of Impact’s second run with the team.
Impact quickly clarified that he’s not retiring from professional League of Legends. The 29-year-old player released a personal statement explaining he needs a few months of rest before deciding his next move.
“I’ve been struggling with burnout and losing control of my emotions,” Impact revealed in his message to fans. He mentioned personal stressors and a loss of passion that affected his performance this year.
The Korean import-turned-NA-resident has been competing professionally for over a decade. He won the 2013 World Championship with SK Telecom T1 before moving to North America in 2015.
Impact’s resume speaks for itself. Five LCS titles, multiple Worlds appearances, and a reputation as the greatest top laner in North American history. His ability to absorb pressure while playing weakside made him invaluable to every team he joined.
His NA residency status makes him especially attractive to teams. Unlike other imports, Impact doesn’t take up one of the two international player slots allowed per roster. This flexibility lets teams import talent in other positions while keeping a world-class top laner.
Team Liquid hasn’t announced who will fill Impact’s shoes. The organization has cycled through several top laners in recent years, including Alphari, Bwipo, and Summit. Finding the right fit has proven challenging.
Impact’s departure leaves a massive hole in Team Liquid’s roster. The team must now scramble during the offseason to find a suitable replacement for one of the most consistent players in LCS history.
