League of Legends has rolled out its seasonal winter map for Summoner’s Rift. The update brings snow-covered terrain and festive visual touches across the game’s primary battleground.

The most noticeable change hits players’ inventories. Health Potions now appear as cups of hot chocolate in the shop and inventory UI. The swap is purely cosmetic, the items still cost 50 gold and restore health exactly as before.

Riot Games has extended the festive makeover to other consumables too. Players running the Biscuit Delivery rune will find their biscuits replaced with gingerbread cookies. The studio has kept these details small but consistent across the winter theme.

This approach echoes League of Legends‘ earliest seasonal events. Back in the 2010–2011 winter map, Health Potions were temporarily reskinned as eggnog. Riot appears to be reviving that tradition with a modern twist.

The winter variant typically remains active for a limited time during the holiday season. Previous years included a settings toggle that let players disable the seasonal visuals if they preferred the standard map. That option may return this year, though Riot hasn’t officially confirmed it.

Small touches that matter

Seasonal map updates have become less frequent in recent years as Riot shifted development resources. The last full winter reskin arrived in 2018. This year’s return marks a notable reversal for players who’ve missed the festive atmosphere.

The changes don’t affect gameplay balance or competitive integrity. Pro play and ranked queues function identically whether you’re sipping hot chocolate or standard potions. But for casual players grinding through holiday break, the visual flair adds personality to familiar matches.
