A new leak circulating online claims that Toys for Bob has worked on a new Spyro project. The unconfirmed leak comes from a former developer’s work history on LinkedIn, stating they worked on Call of Duty and Spyro between August 2022 and March 2024. No official announcement has been made by Toys for Bob, Xbox, or Microsoft.
Toys for Bob has strong ties to the purple dragon. The studio developed Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2018, which remade the original PlayStation trilogy with modern graphics and controls. The remaster was well-received and rekindled interest in the dormant franchise.
The studio followed up with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time in 2020. Both projects proved Toys for Bob could handle classic platformer properties with care and skill.
Earlier in 2024, Toys for Bob announced they were going independent after years under Activision’s ownership. The studio revealed they’re still partnering with Xbox and Microsoft on their next game. This arrangement makes a new Spyro project feasible since Microsoft now controls the IP following their acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2023.
The Spyro franchise has been largely dormant since the Reignited Trilogy aside from minor appearances. Meanwhile, Crash Bandicoot received multiple releases including Crash 4 and Crash Team Rumble. Many fans feel Spyro deserves similar attention.
