A new leak suggests Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed multiplayer project is taking an unexpected direction. According to information shared by xj0nathan, a known Assassin’s Creed leaker, the standalone multiplayer title codenamed “Invictus” reportedly features Fall Guys-style gameplay with short elimination rounds and a bright party-game presentation.

The leak claims Invictus leans heavily into the battle royale party format. Think quick matches, mass eliminations, and a lighter tone than typical Assassin’s Creed games. This would mark a sharp departure from what many fans hoped for—a revival of the franchise’s beloved social stealth multiplayer.

Tom Henderson, an industry reporter and leaker, quickly weighed in to dispute parts of the characterization. Henderson said that earlier builds he saw looked more like a traditional Assassin’s Creed game, though possibly with reduced visual quality for multiplayer performance. He described arena-style maps pulled from different Assassin’s Creed games rather than party-game obstacles.

Henderson also cautioned against amplifying claims from a single source who might be disgruntled. He warned that anonymous leakers can exaggerate when upset, especially when they claim to speak for an entire development team.

Assassin’s Creed previously had a distinct multiplayer era from 2010 to 2013. Starting with Brotherhood and continuing through Revelations, AC III, and Black Flag, the mode featured unique social stealth gameplay. Players blended into NPC crowds while hunting specific targets and avoiding detection themselves. It was unlike anything else in multiplayer gaming at the time.

Ubisoft removed multiplayer after Black Flag and hasn’t brought it back in mainline entries. Unity later featured cooperative missions instead of competitive modes. Fans have been asking for the classic competitive multiplayer to return ever since.

Invictus is part of Ubisoft’s broader strategy to treat Assassin’s Creed as a connected platform rather than standalone releases. The company has been developing multiple Assassin’s Creed projects simultaneously, including mainline games like Shadows and spinoffs like mobile title Jade.

The conflicting descriptions create uncertainty about what Invictus actually is. One source describes Fall Guys-style elimination gameplay. Another describes traditional Assassin’s Creed combat in arena maps. Both could be partially accurate if the project has gone through significant changes during development.
