Ludwig has officially banned Super Smash Bros. Melee pro Joseph “Mang0” Marquez from all future events following inappropriate behavior during a recent “Beerio Kart” stream. The high-profile Smash player became excessively intoxicated and reportedly harassed multiple attendees, making several visibly uncomfortable.
Clips from the stream show Mang0 acting inappropriately—being overly touchy with female guests like Maya Higa, humping people, and at one point walking around in his underwear. Things really got out of hand when Ludwig had Mang0 blow into a breathalyzer, which registered a dangerous 0.32 BAC reading, though some have questioned the device’s accuracy.
Ludwig addressed what happened publicly, taking partial responsibility for letting the drinking get out of control and being too drunk himself to keep things in check. He confirmed Mang0 was eventually cut off from alcohol about an hour before the stream ended, but by then, the damage was done.
“He will not be invited to any of my events going forward,” Ludwig stated firmly, making it clear this goes for all future gatherings whether or not drinks are involved. Ludwig also announced that no main channel content would be produced from the stream.
This isn’t Mang0’s first run-in with alcohol-related trouble. The Melee champion has a known history of problematic behavior while intoxicated, leading to restrictions at previous community events. After what happened, Mang0 admitted to his bad behavior on social media and said he’ll rethink his relationship with alcohol—a promise he’s made before after similar moments.
What happened has called the future of Beerio Kart itself into question. Ludwig hinted that the event series might be finished for good, pointing to this mess along with other issues related to the alcohol-heavy format.
