Mizkif went live and called out some of the biggest names in streaming for their deafening silence on the Hasan Piker dog collar controversy.
During a recent broadcast, the OTK co-founder directly addressed the viral clip showing Hasan managing his dog Kaya in a confined gated area while using a training device on the animal’s collar. Critics have accused Hasan of using a shock collar and mistreating his dog. Hasan has denied these allegations and insists the device does not deliver electric shocks.
“Where are all the people who usually have something to say?” Mizkif asked his viewers. He pointed out that several high-profile creators who typically weigh in on streamer drama have avoided commenting on this situation entirely. The real issue, according to Mizkif, is the obvious double standard at play.
“If this was me, everyone would be on it,” he said. Mizkif suggested that if he were in Hasan’s position, the same creators staying silent now would be actively criticizing him or calling for platform action.
He argued that the silence comes from fear. Fear of blowback from Hasan’s massive audience. Fear of losing collaborative opportunities. Fear of being ostracized from industry events and social circles.
Mizkif didn’t name specific creators during his remarks, but viewers and commenters quickly filled in the blanks. Many pointed to Ludwig, QT Cinderella, and Valkyrae as notable absences from the conversation. These creators are known to collaborate with Hasan and frequently comment on streaming industry news.
Ludwig runs Mogul Mail, a news channel covering creator drama. QT produces The Streamer Awards. Valkyrae, who has publicly dated Hasan, reportedly made a brief statement acknowledging “bad optics” before shifting focus to other topics.
Some also noted Maya Higa’s silence. As a wildlife conservationist who runs Alveus Sanctuary, her expertise on animal welfare makes her absence particularly notable to critics. However, Maya typically avoids public drama and handles disagreements privately.
The controversy itself centers on disputed facts. The viral clip shows Kaya in a gated area during one of Hasan’s streams. A collar device is visible and appears to be activated. Critics claim this is a shock collar used as punishment. Supporters argue the device only beeps or vibrates and that confining the dog was a reasonable short-term measure.
Hasan has repeatedly denied abusing Kaya and pushed back on the characterization of his dog care. He maintains that the collar does not shock and that Kaya is well-treated.
Twitch’s community guidelines prohibit animal abuse on stream, but no platform action has been reported. The company typically investigates context and intent before enforcing such rules.
His comments also carry additional weight given his own history. In 2022, Mizkif caught major heat over his handling of sexual assault allegations involving an OTK-adjacent streamer. He was temporarily removed from OTK leadership during an internal review. Many creators who now stay silent on the Hasan situation were vocal during Mizkif’s controversy.
That history makes his current stance particularly pointed. He’s not asking creators to condemn Hasan. He’s asking why the same standards don’t apply to everyone.
As of now, most of the creators Mizkif implicitly referenced have not issued substantive public statements on the matter. Whether they address it going forward may depend on how long the controversy persists and whether it gains traction beyond social media.
