Riot Games released the official hype trailer for the 2025 League of Legends World Championship Grand Final on Tuesday. The video frames the T1 versus KT Rolster matchup as the centerpiece of League’s 15-year competitive history.
The trailer closes with Faker’s challenge: “If you want it… then earn it from me.”
The video positions the finals as the latest chapter in the “Telecom War” rivalry that has defined Korean League of Legends since the game’s early competitive days. T1 enters the match chasing an unprecedented three-peat after back-to-back championships. KT seeks its first-ever Worlds title despite being one of Korea’s most storied organizations.
Riot built the narrative around Faker as League’s central figure. The trailer revisits the 2013 Zed outplay against Ryu from the OGN Champions Summer semifinals—one of esports’ most replayed moments. That play happened during an earlier Telecom War clash and became the defining clip of League’s first competitive era.
The video includes cameos from players across League’s history. MadLife, Uzi, Soaz, Doublelift, and Bjergsen appear in montage sequences showing the global scope of competitive League. The framing connects KT’s Bdd to the lineage of mid-lane greats inspired by Faker’s legacy.
Production leans heavily on CGI and greenscreen environments. The celestial stage design references Chinese mythology, specifically the Four Symbols and 28 lunar mansions. Riot used film grain effects and layered constellation imagery throughout.
The creative direction emphasizes the “earn your legacy” theme across voiceover lines from casters representing multiple regions. The trailer positions the match within Worlds’ 15th anniversary while highlighting the Telecom War as League’s most historic rivalry.
The stakes are historic
T1’s potential three-peat would cement an already unmatched dynasty. Faker has won multiple world championships across different roster eras. The organization’s modern lineup has reached consecutive finals and now stands one series from a third straight title.
KT Rolster carries decades of domestic success but has never won Worlds. Bdd has spent years as one of Korea’s premier mid-laners without a world championship. Doran and Cuzz bring their own redemption storylines to a finals appearance that represents KT’s best shot at converting near-misses into a Summoner’s Cup.
The Telecom War predates League of Legends. The rivalry originated in Korean StarCraft before carrying over to League when SK Telecom T1 and KT Rolster became two of the LCK’s defining organizations. The 2013 semifinals series cemented the matchup in League history and established Faker as the game’s face.
