Slay the Spire 2 has posted a Steam concurrent player peak of 574,638. That number places it as the 20th highest peak in Steam’s entire history.
The figure is especially notable because the game is currently in early access. Most titles see their largest player spikes during full launch windows. Whether the eventual 1.0 release will push numbers even higher remains to be seen.
The original Slay the Spire peaked at around 60,000 concurrent players. That makes this sequel’s performance nearly a 10x jump from the first game.
Several factors are driving the massive turnout. The original game spent years building a devoted fanbase as the title that essentially defined the modern deckbuilding roguelite genre. That accumulated goodwill translates to day-one demand when a sequel arrives.
The addition of co-op and multiplayer modes is also playing a significant role. Players are buying copies for friends and coordinating group sessions. That naturally pushes concurrent numbers higher since people are logging in at the same time to play together.
Platform availability matters too. Slay the Spire 2 launched exclusively on PC through Steam. When games release simultaneously across multiple platforms or services like Game Pass, the Steam-specific concurrent count gets diluted. This sequel captured the entire launch wave in one place.
What the numbers actually mean
The 574,638 peak puts Slay the Spire 2 just below Silksong, which hit 587,150 concurrent players. Both games represent a similar pattern: beloved indie properties with established communities that generate blockbuster-level launch interest.
Regional performance is also contributing. The game appears to be performing particularly strong in China, where the original built a substantial following over the years.
