Sloclap, the independent French developer known for action titles like Absolver and Sifu, has officially launched their newest game Rematch. The arcade-style soccer game hit PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam today, accompanied by an official launch trailer showing off its fast, action-packed gameplay.
Rematch offers a fresh take on the soccer genre with its arena-based approach that focuses on quick matches and easy-to-pick-up mechanics. Players can jump into 3v3 or 5v5 online competitive modes that emphasize manual ball control, precision passing, and skillful goal-scoring. Unlike traditional soccer games, Rematch removes boundaries and fouls, creating a more free-flowing and high-scoring experience.
The game comes with a $30 price tag, putting it in the same range as the early pricing of Rocket League. It’s also available through Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers instant access to the title. The launch follows several test runs including closed beta, open beta, and early access periods.
At launch, Rematch features ranked play mainly in the 5v5 format, cosmetic and progression systems with a battle pass, and basic practice modes. However, many players have noticed several missing features that would normally be expected in a multiplayer sports game.
Right now, the game doesn’t have any single-player or offline play modes, though Sloclap has said they plan to add AI opponents in an update down the line. Crossplay isn’t available yet either, so friends using different platforms can’t play together right now, but the developers have said it’s a high priority on their to-do list.
Technical issues have been a headache for players on launch day, with reports of shaky servers, matches desyncing, and lag making the game tough to enjoy. The game is also missing some basics, like custom controller button mapping and smoother practice mode options.
Sloclap has been candid about these problems, releasing blog posts that lay out what’s wrong and what their plan is for fixes and new features. The team has promised to work on technical issues and add more stuff over the next few weeks and months.
Kicking into a crowded field
Rematch drops into a busy space for multiplayer sports games, clearly taking notes from titles like Rocket League and FIFA Street. It aims to strike a balance between realistic sports games and over-the-top, wild experiences, making it an appealing option for players seeking a fun game that rewards skill and teamwork.
Even with its launch problems, Rematch looks promising thanks to its tight core gameplay that puts teamwork and fast action front and center. If the player base grows and the developers can iron out the kinks, Sloclap’s latest game might just carve out its own spot in the arcade sports scene.
