Hasan Piker was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey and grew up in Istanbul, Turkey—before moving back to the U.S. to study political science at Rutgers University. He started as an intern for his uncle Cenk Uygur at The Young Turks (TYT), a progressive news network, where he climbed the ladder as a producer and host.

In 2018, Hasan decided to go solo and moved to Twitch. From Just Chatting sessions, to games like The Exit 8 or Baisu—Hasan’s always talking about current events, leftist politics, and critiques of capitalist systems.

Today, Hasan mostly hosts Just Chatting streams, where he interacts directly with his audience, watching videos, answering questions, and responding to current events in real-time.

Hasan's controversies and scandals

Controversies are part and parcel of HasanAbi’s brand, as his outspoken opinions often get him in trouble. He doesn't shy away from topics like capitalism, communism or cancel-culture, often clashing with other political commentators and media outlets.

Antisemitism, slurs, 9/11 scandal

In 2024, Hasan faced scrutiny from Congressman Ritchie Torres, who linked him to a perceived rise in antisemitism on Twitch following the October 7 Hamas attacks. Torres claimed that Hasan’s inflammatory remarks pose a serious threat, urging Twitch to reconsider its role in amplifying such content.

Back in 2021, HasanAbi was banned from Twitch for using the term "cracker" during a live stream.

In 2019, Hasan Piker infamously said that "America deserved 9/11". He also mocked Congressman Dan Crenshaw's eye patch during a stream, referencing Crenshaw's injuries sustained in combat.

This comment led to significant backlash, with many accusing Hasan of crossing a line in his humor. Crenshaw later responded, stating the need for respectful discourse.

While Hasan defended his remarks, he argued they were part of a larger critique of right-wing politics and not personal. The incident opened a lot of viewers' eyes to the edgy nature of Hasan's brand and his more "out there takes"—to say the least.

Hasan vs. Destiny

Another long-standing feud has been between Hasan and Destiny due to their conflicting political views, beginning at Politicon 2018.

Tensions reignited during the 2020 primaries over Destiny’s criticism of "Bernie Bros," leading to further clashes over Kamala Harris and derogatory remarks about Pete Buttigieg. In 2021, their rivalry intensified over Hasan's use of the term gusano" and most recently, Destiny condemned Hasan for a controversial interview with a Houthi pirate, solidifying their long-standing conflict.

Hasan vs. Ben Shapiro

Hasan’s boldness has led to notable feuds mwith right wing powerhouses like Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder. These debates—if you can call them that—involve a lot of yelling and arguing about semantics.

Usually hosted on his stream, Hasan’s community often participates in these debates through chat. Hasan typically approaches these with humor and sarcasm, and tries to dismantle his opponent with facts and logic—keeping his audience coming back for more.

Hasan vs. H3 Productions

From September 2021 to October 2023, Hasan and Ethan Klein from h3h3Productions co-hosted Leftovers, a left-leaning political podcast on the H3 Podcast channel. The show ran for 61 episodes, blending political analysis with internet culture commentary, before going on indefinite hiatus due to growing ideological tensions.

These first surfaced in October 2023 during an episode discussing the Israel–Hamas conflict and the events following October 7. Diverging views—especially around Palestinian resistance—along with growing toxicity in Hasan’s chat, began to drive a wedge between the two. The podcast was put on permanent hiatus after the release of its 61st episode on October 12, 2023.

What started as moderate disagreement escalated when Ethan repeatedly criticized Hasan’s stance on Israel–Palestine, accusing him of fostering antisemitism and "pro-terrorism" rhetoric. Ethan later released several videos, like his “Content Nuke,” targeting Hasan’s positions, prompting rebuttals from Hasan—including a video titled “Debate Me Ethan Klein.

On May 2, 2025, the duo faced off in a four and a half hour long live-streamed debate. The event was billed as a culmination of long-simmering tensions: Ethan brought up accusations around content and chat moderation, while Hasan defended his political views and slammed mischaracterizations. Highlights went viral across social media and news outlets.

Following the live clash, both creators have continued criticizing each other on their platforms. Ethan has threatened legal action against streamers echoing Hasan’s perspectives, while Hasan maintains the feud is ideologically driven—claiming Ethan misrepresents his intentions.

Alleged support for terrorist organizations

Hasan has been criticized for remarks perceived as supportive or uncritical of armed resistance groups designated as terrorists in Western policy.

In September 2024, he proclaimed “I don’t have an issue” with Hezbollah—an Iran-backed militia designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department since 1997.

As part of the same stream, he praised Houthis for seizing a supposed Israeli ship—that Israel claimed was British-Japanese—in 2023. For context, Houthis’ slogan, the Sarkha, explicitly declares: “God is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse be upon the Jews, Victory to Islam.”

This was sometime after he interviewed an alleged Houthi pirate that he presented as "Yemeni Timothée Chalamet" in January 2024. Hasan later said he had no problem with interviewing Houthis and planned to do more such interviews in the future.

In November 2024, he joked about another 9/11. “Oh my god, 9/11 2 is going to be so sick. Give Saudi Arabia a nuke so they can do 9/11 2.” While he presented the comments sarcastically, right-wing media characterized this move as Hasan “cheerleading for terrorism.”

In May 2025, Hasan was suspended from Twitch after broadcasting the manifesto of a suspect in the killing of two Israeli Embassy staffers outside a Jewish museum in Washington D.C.

Why Hasan Piker won't back down

Hasan navigates criticism through humor and defiance, framing his critics as out of touch—often using sarcasm to counter his haters.
