TL;DR
  • Faker revealed in a recent interview that he doesn't watch TV shows and is unfamiliar with League champion lore.
  • The T1 mid laner compared his knowledge of TV shows to an Iron-ranked player trying to explain high-level League strategies.
  • Despite being League's biggest star for nearly a decade, Faker's interests remain almost exclusively focused on gameplay mechanics and competitive improvement.

In a revealing 1:1 interview with HotSpawn, T1’s Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok offered rare insights into his interests outside of competitive League of Legends, surprising fans with his admission of complete disinterest in television entertainment and even the lore behind the champions he has mastered.

When asked if he would be interested in watching League of Legends champion-based animated shows like the critically acclaimed Arcane, the three-time World Champion confessed that while he knows champions and their abilities thoroughly, he remains unfamiliar with their backstories and lore.

“I also don’t know anything about TV shows,” Faker explained through translator Jeesun Park. “So it’s like asking an Iron player how to play League well.”

The analogy perfectly sums up Faker’s singular focus on competitive gameplay. Despite being the face of League of Legends for nearly a decade, his engagement with the game appears strictly limited to mastering mechanics and strategies that help him maintain his status as the greatest player of all time.

This laser-focused approach has defined Faker’s legendary career with T1 since his debut in 2013. While Riot Games has expanded the League universe with extensive lore, cinematics, and media projects like Arcane, Faker’s interests have remained firmly rooted in competitive improvement.

The interview also had some lighter moments. Faker mentioned enjoying a card game called “Demon’s Hand,” which involves combining cards by number. “I really liked it where you play with the cards and combine the numbers. That was really fun,” he said, offering a rare glimpse into his gaming interests outside of League.

Faker’s comments have gotten playful reactions from fans, with some jokingly questioning if he might actually be a “robot” programmed solely for League excellence. His apparent indifference to cultural phenomena like Arcane, which captivated much of the League community, stands as another testament to the unique mindset that has kept him at the top of the game for so long.
