Team Cherry revealed the first teaser trailer for Sea of Sorrow, a free expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong. The DLC will arrive in 2026 and adds a nautical adventure to Hornet’s journey.
The expansion centers on voyaging “across and beneath the salt-stricken seas” according to the official description. Players can expect new areas to explore, fresh bosses to fight, and additional tools to master.
Team Cherry confirmed the content will be free for all Silksong owners. The studio plans to keep specific details under wraps until closer to release, sticking with its typical secretive approach to marketing.
This announcement comes remarkably early in Silksong‘s lifecycle. The studio revealed expansion plans before the base game had even celebrated its first anniversary, signaling confidence in the game’s long-term roadmap.
The move mirrors Team Cherry’s strategy with the original Hollow Knight, which received four major free expansions after launch. Hidden Dreams, The Grimm Troupe, Lifeblood, and Godmaster all added substantial content without charging players extra.
Nautical expansions in Metroidvania games usually introduce new movement mechanics and enemy types. Swimming mechanics, underwater pressure zones, and sea-based traversal tools could significantly expand Silksong‘s gameplay systems.
