Koei Tecmo and Team NINJA have confirmed a new Dead or Alive project is in development. The announcement came through a brief teaser trailer posted under PlayStation’s PS5 Games branding.
The teaser runs roughly 20 seconds and doesn’t reveal much. It’s titled simply “Dead or Alive New Project” with no confirmation whether this is Dead or Alive 7 or something else entirely. No release date or window was provided.
What the teaser does show is a heavy emphasis on character visuals and the series’ signature fanservice-forward presentation. The thumbnail and camera work focus prominently on cleavage and character models rather than faces or action. The phrase “core values” appears in the marketing materials, signaling the developers are leaning into the franchise’s established aesthetic identity.
What’s missing is basically everything else. The teaser contains no gameplay footage, no discussion of fighting mechanics, and no information about modes or features. There’s no mention of netcode implementation, which has become a critical factor for modern fighting games. The roster remains unknown. Monetization approach is unaddressed.
Platform availability is also unclear. While the teaser carries PS5 branding, this doesn’t confirm exclusivity. Previous mainline Dead or Alive entries have typically launched across multiple platforms. Until Koei Tecmo makes an official statement, PC and Xbox versions are still up in the air.
This marks the first new mainline-style Dead or Alive project since Dead or Alive 6 launched in 2019. That game struggled to gain traction in a competitive fighting game market dominated by Tekken, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat.
What fans actually want to know
The Dead or Alive series is built around its hold and counter system, which creates a rock-paper-scissors dynamic between strikes, throws, and defensive reversals. The franchise is also known for multi-tier stage transitions that let players knock opponents through walls and floors into new arena sections.
Whether the new project preserves these mechanics, implements rollback netcode for smooth online play, or takes a different direction entirely remains to be seen. Koei Tecmo hasn’t released additional details beyond the teaser’s existence.
