Activision has officially announced Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, a remake bundle launching July 11 across Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo Switch platforms. The highly anticipated title will also be available on Game Pass at launch, making it immediately accessible to subscribers.
Unlike the 2020 remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, this new package introduces a significant format change. The developers have opted for a two-minute run structure across all levels, combining Pro Skater 3‘s timed challenges with Pro Skater 4’s larger environments. This marks a notable departure from the original open-world design that allowed players to explore levels freely without time constraints.
Iron Galaxy Studios has taken over development duties following major restructuring at Activision Blizzard that saw previous remake developer Vicarious Visions merged into Blizzard Entertainment. This studio transition has got some fans talking, as they had praised Vicarious Visions’ faithful handling of the THPS 1+2 remake.
The reveal trailer showcases dramatically improved graphics, with detailed skater models and environments rendered in 4K resolution. The visual leap highlights how far technology has advanced since the original games launched in 2001 and 2002 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube.
Long-time fans have expressed mixed reactions to the streamlined goals system. THPS4 was revolutionary for its time, abandoning the series’ traditional two-minute runs in favor of an open structure where players discovered missions by talking to NPCs throughout each level. The remake’s return to timed runs has started a conversation about preserving the unique identity of each game.
Another potential change involves the iconic soundtrack and guest characters. The original games featured licensed music from bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and CKY, alongside guest skaters such as Spider-Man and Darth Maul. Licensing complications may prevent some of these elements from returning in their original form.
