Joseph “Mang0” Marquez, a legendary Super Smash Bros. Melee player, has been banned from Twitch after sexually harassing multiple female streamers during a livestreamed party. The incident occurred during a recent “Beerio Kart” event hosted at fellow streamer Ludwig’s venue, where Mang0 became heavily intoxicated.
Footage from the stream shows Mang0 making unwanted sexual advances toward several female streamers, including dry humping and other inappropriate physical contact. The behavior was clearly visible on camera and made multiple participants visibly uncomfortable as thousands watched live.
The consequences were swift. Twitch enacted a ban under its policies prohibiting sexual harassment, while Cloud9, Mang0’s esports organization and sponsor for many years, dropped him from their roster. Several tournament organizers have also banned Mang0 from upcoming events, citing participant safety concerns.
The event that led to his ban was part of Beerio Cart stream that combines drinking and gaming. Ludwig, who hosted the gathering, acknowledged some responsibility for enabling Mang0’s drinking but emphasized that Mang0 was ultimately accountable for his own actions.
“Go do this at the company Christmas party and see if you are still employed come New Year,” one commenter noted about the situation. Another pointed out, “If you did this to a SINGLE coworker you’d be instantly fired. He did this to how many people?”
Twitch’s Community Guidelines explicitly prohibit sexual harassment, including behaviors that make users feel uncomfortable or unsafe, regardless of a streamer’s intent or level of intoxication.
People online are now talking about alcohol’s role at influencer events and what hosts should be doing. Some community members have suggested Mang0 seek professional help for potential drinking problems, while others debate whether event organizers should have intervened earlier.
The length of Mang0’s Twitch ban remains unspecified. Similar infractions have resulted in penalties ranging from temporary suspensions to permanent platform removal.
