Twitch streamer Lacari ran into legal questions during a recent livestream when he looked up whether “lolicon” content is illegal in Texas.

The stream took an unexpected turn when Lacari used Grok, an AI chatbot, to check the legality of lolicon material. The term typically refers to anime or manga-style sexual content depicting minors or characters with childlike features.

After reading what appeared to be Texas Penal Code text about “obscene visual material involving a child,” Lacari reacted as if the statute might apply to him. He told viewers he would delete his hard drive.

He can later be seen deleting files during the broadcast. Portions of his screen showed what looked like file explorer windows and drive directories. Some commenters noted he may have confused the penal code citation number for a dollar amount while reading the statute.

Texas Penal Code Section 43.26 addresses possession of child sexual abuse material. The statute can apply to drawings, cartoons, and computer-generated images under certain conditions, not just photographs. Many people assume drawn or animated content falls outside these laws, but Texas is among states that take a broader approach.

At the federal level, laws around virtual or drawn depictions have a complicated history. The Supreme Court struck down some broad bans in 2002, but states have passed their own statutes addressing material that depicts minors in sexual situations, even when animated.

One viewer quote circulating from the stream captures the surreal nature of the moment: “Why is he still streaming?!?! When his mod asked he said chat makes him feel safe and he’s afraid to end.”

When AI becomes your lawyer

Using an AI chatbot for legal advice during a live broadcast raises obvious questions. Grok and similar tools can provide general information but aren’t substitutes for actual legal counsel. Doing this research live, with thousands watching, turned a private legal question into a public spectacle.

This clip is probably the least bad of the ones spreading across socials right now. Everything blew up when he pulled up a notepad file that had download links to alleged CSAM, loli, and beastiality content. Let’s just say it’s not going to be a good rest of the week for Lacari if he keeps it up at this rate.
