Vedal987 became Twitch’s most-subscribed channel by current active subscriptions, hitting an estimated 162,459 subs during a subathon event. The number represents active paid subscriptions at that moment, not an all-time peak record.
The surge happened fast. Vedal987’s channel jumped from around 7,500 subscriptions to over 151,000 in roughly five days. At one point during the stream, the channel gained approximately 100,000 subs in about two hours.
Vedal987 is the creator and operator of Neuro-sama, an AI-powered VTuber that streams live on Twitch. The character uses machine learning to interact with chat and other streamers in real time. The VTuber side of Neuro-sama was created with C#, while all AI components use Python.
The majority of the subscriptions came through gifts. An estimated 158,000 of the total were gifted subs, meaning viewers purchased them to distribute to other community members. During a subathon, each subscription typically adds time to the broadcast or unlocks goals, creating an incentive loop that encourages mass gifting.
Gifted subscriptions count the same as regular subscriptions while active but expire after their term ends unless renewed. This means “most-subscribed” rankings on Twitch fluctuate constantly, making the distinction between current active totals and historical peaks important. Other streamers like Kai Cenat have hit extremely high sub peaks during their own events, but Vedal987’s channel held the top active subscription count at the time of this milestone.
Operating Neuro-sama isn’t cheap. Vedal has mentioned development and operational costs in the range of several thousand dollars per month, with figures between $1,000 and $7,000 cited in various streams. The AI requires significant computing resources to run live interactions, though the exact technical specifications remain somewhat unclear.
