Saber Interactive released a paid voice pack DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 this week priced at $5. Players who bought it say the add-on barely delivers any new content.
The voice pack was marketed as adding new voice lines to the game. Buyers expected meaningful additions like chapter-specific battle cries and expanded dialogue options. What they got instead appears to be largely recycled voice lines from content already in the game.
Multiple players describe the implementation as extremely low-effort. One buyer put it bluntly: “It’s only $5 but if they were going to implement it so poorly then they shouldn’t even have bothered.”
The controversy centers on what players see as a gap between what was promised and what was delivered. In the Warhammer 40K universe, different Space Marine Chapters have distinct identities and iconic war cries. Fans wanted that flavor reflected in the voice work. Instead, they report getting reused audio that adds little to nothing.
Several buyers are calling the DLC’s marketing misleading. “This is only $5 but for the low effort and recycled voice lines it should have been free,” another player wrote.
The same update that added the voice pack also introduced a new Techmarine class completely free. That class has similar voice line issues according to players, but the free price tag makes it easier to overlook. The paid voice pack gets no such grace.
A separate bug related to the Techmarine update has also surfaced. Players report one perk column showing costs of 500 requisition points when it should be 50. Developers have reportedly acknowledged the issue and are looking into it.
The pushback marks the first major monetization controversy for Space Marine 2 since launch. Previous updates were generally well-received by the community.
