The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may be getting new downloadable content according to claims from multiple gaming industry leakers and sources. The rumors have surfaced nearly a decade after the game’s original 2015 release.
Prominent leaker NateTheHate reportedly stated he has “heard things” about upcoming The Witcher 3 DLC. Two additional sources have independently backed up the claim: a former Polish gaming journalist and a former project lead from the original Witcher game. All three have separately indicated new content is in development.
The sources haven’t provided concrete details. No title, release date, platform list, or price point has been revealed. The scope remains unclear whether this would be a small free content pack or a substantial paid expansion like the game’s previous add-ons.
CDPR hasn’t officially confirmed the project. The company typically uses “DLC” to describe smaller free content drops while reserving “expansion” for major paid story content. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the game’s two massive expansions from 2015 and 2016, both fell into the second group.
The Witcher 3 has already received post-launch support well beyond its initial release window. CDPR delivered numerous free DLC packs after launch including quests, cosmetics, and alternate outfits. The studio later released a next-gen update with technical improvements and new features, proving they’re willing to revisit the title years after release.
CDPR has publicly confirmed development of the next mainline Witcher game. The company has discussed expanding the franchise into a wider multi-project saga. New DLC for The Witcher 3 could serve as a bridge between games, keeping the franchise in the spotlight during the long gap between major releases.
Modern publishers increasingly use long-tail sales strategies. A DLC drop for a beloved legacy title generates significant attention at lower cost than a full new release. The Witcher 3 remains a frequently replayed game with ongoing platform updates and re-releases, making additional content strategically sound.
