CD Projekt Red has marked the tenth anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, one of the most acclaimed RPGs ever made. Originally released in May 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the game has since expanded to Nintendo Switch and next-generation consoles, building a legacy that continues to influence the gaming landscape.

The Witcher 3 follows monster hunter Geralt of Rivia on his quest to find his adopted daughter Ciri while navigating political intrigue and battling supernatural threats. Its massive open world, branching narratives, and morally complex choices quickly earned it critical acclaim, with the game ultimately winning hundreds of Game of the Year awards.
Over the last decade, the title has sold over 50 million copies across all platforms. Its success helped catapult the Witcher franchise into mainstream popularity, eventually leading to adaptations like the Netflix series starring Henry Cavill (and now Liam Hemsworth).
The game received substantial post-launch support, including two expansions widely considered among the best DLCs ever made. Hearts of Stone introduced a haunting tale involving the mysterious Gaunter O’Dimm. At the same time, Blood and Wine took players to the colorful region of Toussaint for what many fans consider a perfect sendoff for Geralt.
Technical support for the game never waned either. The 2022 next-gen update brought ray tracing, improved load times, and enhanced visuals to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and modern PCs. Even more impressive, these upgrades were offered free to existing owners, cementing CD Projekt Red’s reputation for player-friendly business practices.
The Witcher 3‘s influence on game design can’t be overstated. Its approach to side quests—making even small tasks feel meaningful with rich storylines—raised the bar for open-world games. The Bloody Baron questline, in particular, is frequently cited as a masterclass in video game storytelling.
More monsters please
Looking ahead, CD Projekt Red has confirmed development of a new game, The Witcher 4 and a remake of the original game. While details remain scarce, the enthusiastic community response to the anniversary shows that interest in the franchise remains as strong as ever.
The anniversary has brought on waves of nostalgia among fans, many of whom vividly recall their first time stepping out of White Orchard and realizing the true scale of the game’s world. Others fondly remember getting lost in rounds of Gwent, the in-game card game that became so popular it spawned its own standalone title.
