Embark Studios has shown off an upgrade to the environmental destruction in The Finals. The new tech is said to be part of the game’s Season 12 update.
Smashing buildings has been at the heart of The Finals since day one. The showcase points to a refined version of a system players already know well.
The footage focuses on how damaged structures break apart and move once they start to collapse. Viewers have picked up on bigger pieces of buildings falling and twisting in new ways.
Some viewers read the clip as showing debris that could open new routes or create fresh barriers. That would matter in a game where map layout can change mid-fight.
Why destruction matters in The Finals
Players pick a Light, Medium, or Heavy build. Each has its own health, gear, and role. Destruction works alongside movement, weapons, and gadgets, so it’s part of every fight.
In cashout modes, teams grab money and deposit it at cashout stations while rivals try to steal the payout. This is where destruction shines. Blow out a wall and defenders are exposed. Break a floor and the objective suddenly has a new entrance. Delete cover and a safe spot becomes a trap.
In most shooters, you fight through fixed doors, stairs, and lanes. In The Finals, you can make your own door.
