NBA 2K25 is heading for the bench.
According to an in-game notice, NBA 2K25 will lose access to its online services on January 1, 2027. When that happens, MyCAREER and MyTEAM go dark, multiplayer ends, and players can no longer earn Virtual Currency (VC).
The game won’t become a coaster, though. Several offline modes will stay playable.
The game is also reportedly being delisted from sale. These are two separate moves. Delisting stops new players from buying the game. The server shutdown takes features away from people who already own it.
Solo doesn’t mean offline
MyCAREER is the headline loss. A lot of it is played alone, but it still runs on 2K’s servers for progression and VC. Once those servers switch off, the mode switches off with them.
The notice doesn’t mention an offline version of MyCAREER. It also says nothing about whether existing career saves can be opened after the cutoff. Losing access to a mode isn’t the same as your save being deleted, but for now nobody knows if those files will be usable.
Owning a physical copy won’t help either. A disc can’t bring back a mode that needs servers that no longer exist.
