IGN Poland stated it has known about a rumored new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for years. The claim suggests the DLC would introduce a completely new region to explore.
The rumored expansion would be far more substantial than a simple bonus quest. According to the claim, it could serve as a narrative bridge connecting The Witcher 3 to CD Projekt Red’s next mainline Witcher game.
The Witcher 3 launched in 2015 and received two major expansions. Hearts of Stone arrived later that same year with new storylines built on the existing map. Blood and Wine followed in 2016, adding the entire region of Toussaint along with new mechanics and enough content to feel almost standalone.
A brand-new region expansion would be remarkable for a single-player RPG that’s nearly a decade old. CDPR did release a next-gen update in 2022 that improved visuals and performance for modern platforms, but a full expansion of this scale would be unprecedented for the studio.
No official details exist about the project. CDPR hasn’t announced anything. The developer, release date, platforms, pricing, and story specifics all remain unconfirmed.
Speculation points to external studios potentially handling development. Fool’s Theory has been mentioned as a possible candidate. The studio includes former Witcher developers and has worked on related projects before. CDPR’s internal teams are focused on multiple projects including the next Witcher saga under the codename Polaris.
Some unverified reports from Polish gaming analysts have suggested May as a potential release window. This remains pure speculation without official confirmation.
The timing would line up with CDPR’s broader Witcher roadmap. The company has publicly confirmed development on new Witcher projects. A late-life expansion for The Witcher 3 could refresh audience interest while setting up story elements for what comes next.
