The LEC broadcast team has said goodbye to Jake “Hysterics” Osypenko. The Australian play-by-play caster is leaving Europe and moving back home to focus on his family.
The send-off aired during an official League of Legends broadcast segment, where his colleagues on the LEC talent roster took a moment to thank him for his work with the league. Hysterics was visibly emotional during the tribute, which closed out his current run on the European broadcast.
This isn’t a surprise exit. Hysterics had spoken about the planned move months in advance, explaining that the relocation is connected to his daughter’s health and her need for ongoing care. He has kept the details limited, and the decision has been framed throughout as a family one.
Plenty of viewers knew Hysterics long before he ever worked an LEC show. He built his international reputation on the English-language LPL broadcast, calling games out of China alongside names like Munchables and Aux. Dagda made a similar jump from that talent pool to the European stage.
His style is easy to recognize. High energy, loud team fight calls, and a habit of describing exactly what is happening on screen. That last part earned him a specific kind of fan: people who keep the LEC on in the background and follow the game by ear alone. He was also known for engaging with feedback and criticism directly instead of ignoring it, and many viewers felt his casting kept improving through his most recent split. His pairing with Finn was a favorite on the desk.
Not a retirement
Nothing here has been announced as a permanent exit from esports commentary. Hysterics has reportedly stayed open to guest appearances and other casting work if his situation allows it, and he has made no secret of loving the job.
The practical problem is distance. The LEC is produced in Berlin, and Australia isn’t exactly a short commute or a friendly time zone. Remote casting, regional events, streaming, and one-off guest spots remain possible, but nothing has been confirmed.
