Obsidian Entertainment is finally giving The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition the attention it should have had at launch. The studio announced new patches focused on bug fixes, performance, and gameplay tweaks, with visual and lighting tuning also on the table.
That alone would be news. But there’s more to it.
Anyone who owns the original version of The Outer Worlds will get Spacer’s Choice Edition for free. The catch is simple: you need at least the base game in your library before May 27.
The free upgrade applies on platforms where Spacer’s Choice Edition exists, which means Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. Since Spacer’s Choice bundles both expansions, eligible players also get Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos included.
The catch nobody loves
The original version is being delisted from storefronts. After the cutoff, new buyers won’t be able to grab it. Existing owners should still be able to redownload it, as is standard on most digital stores, but it’s leaving the shelves.
That’s a sore spot for some players. The original release runs lighter on older hardware and sticks closer to the 2019 art direction. Spacer’s Choice Edition leaned into warmer color grading, heavier fog, and altered lighting, which not everyone was happy about. It also scrapped the level cap, changing the late-game RPG balance.
