Remedy Entertainment has released a substantial update for Control: Ultimate Edition on PC this March, bringing a wealth of new content and technical improvements to their award-winning supernatural action game.
The update makes previously exclusive content available to all players, while addressing numerous graphical and technical issues that fans have long requested.Players can now access four outfits that were previously locked behind pre-order bonuses or special challenges: the Astral Dive Suit, Tactical Response Gear, Urban Response Gear, and Extradimensional Suit.
Perhaps more excitingly, the update includes “Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience,” a special mission featuring the voice of legendary game designer Hideo Kojima that was previously exclusive to the PlayStation 4 Digital Deluxe edition.
The graphical improvements are particularly noteworthy for PC enthusiasts. The update adds official HDR support and an Ultra ray tracing preset, addressing issues that have been a headache for the game’s impressive visual effects since launch.
Control was one of the first major showcases for ray tracing technology when it released in 2019, but some technical issues prevented it from reaching its full potential.
Ultrawide monitor support has been expanded dramatically, with compatibility now extending to 48:9 aspect ratios, complete with proper UI scaling and field of view adjustments. The update also improves graphics adapter detection and adds rendering resolution options beyond 4K for high-end systems.
Technical improvements include support for DLSS 3.7, bringing enhanced stability and texture quality for NVIDIA users. The update also fixes audio mixing issues in cinematics and end credits that have been a nuisance for players since the game’s release.
Control was critically acclaimed for its unique setting inside the Federal Bureau of Control, a secret government agency that investigates paranormal phenomena. Jesse Faden’s journey through the shape-shifting Oldest House combined mind-bending narrative with telekinetic combat and environmental destruction that pushed graphical boundaries.
Remedy has confirmed that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will receive similar updates in the coming months, though some PC-specific features may not make the transition to consoles. The developer is taking a staged approach to ensure quality across all platforms.
