Team Cherry has officially unveiled when players can dive into Hollow Knight: Silksong. The indie studio announced the sequel launches September 4 with a base price of $19.99 USD, ending years of speculation about release timing and cost.
The game releases simultaneously worldwide at 7 AM PT September 4th, which translates to 10 AM ET, 4 PM CEST, and 11 PM JST. Australian players will see it drop at midnight AEST on September 5. The synchronized launch means everyone starts their journey through Pharloom at the same moment.
The $19.99 price tag caught many fans off guard. Recent indie hits often launch between $25 and $35, making Silksong’s pricing feel like a throwback to simpler times. European players will pay €19.99, while the Japanese price sits at ¥2,300. Regional pricing varies with Australia at AUD $29.50, Canada at CAD $25.99, and New Zealand at NZD $28.99.
Xbox and PlayStation Game Pass subscribers get the best deal of all. Silksong arrives on the service day one, meaning subscribers can play without purchasing separately. This move likely influenced the lower retail price, as Team Cherry needs to stay competitive with their own Game Pass offering.
The scope justifies any price point. Team Cherry promises over 200 new enemies, more than 40 bosses, and around 100 benches scattered throughout Pharloom. These numbers dwarf the original Hollow Knight, which launched at $14.99 in 2017 and never charged for its four major content expansions.
Silksong started life as downloadable content focused on Hornet, the swift warrior from the first game. The project grew beyond Team Cherry’s initial vision, transforming into a full sequel set in an entirely new kingdom. Players control Hornet this time, bringing faster movement and silk-based abilities to the familiar Metroidvania formula.
Bug-sized price for a kingdom-sized adventure
The original Hollow Knight sold roughly 15 million copies according to Team Cherry’s recent statements. That success came from word-of-mouth recommendations and the studio’s generous post-launch support. All four major updates—Hidden Dreams, The Grimm Troupe, Lifeblood, and Godmaster—arrived free of charge.
Team Cherry clearly believes the same strategy will work again. The low price point removes barriers for curious players while Game Pass inclusion guarantees millions can try it risk-free. After waiting over five years since the initial announcement, fans finally know exactly when they can explore Pharloom’s mysteries.
