TL;DR
  • Xbox Game Pass adds Metaphor: ReFantazio, The Division 2, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, Monster Train 2, and several other games between May 21 and June 3.
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio joins the service less than a year after its initial release, marking a quick turnaround for a major JRPG.
  • This update continues what many consider Game Pass's strongest year yet, following recent additions like Oblivion Remastered and upcoming titles like Doom: The Dark Ages.

Microsoft has announced a significant wave of new titles coming to Xbox Game Pass, headlined by the acclaimed JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. The latest batch of games will roll out between late May and early June 2025, dramatically expanding the service’s already impressive library.

The standout addition is Metaphor: ReFantazio (Cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S), arriving May 29. Developed by Atlus, the studio behind Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, this fantasy JRPG was released less than a year ago to critical acclaim. Its arrival on Game Pass so quickly after launch is a major win for subscribers, giving them access to a title known for its deep storytelling, strategic turn-based combat, and blend of social sim mechanics similar to the Persona series.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 (Cloud, Console, PC) joins the lineup on May 27. Ubisoft’s popular looter-shooter set in post-pandemic Washington, D.C., has maintained a dedicated player base through regular updates and expansions since its 2019 launch. The game offers extensive PvE and PvP content that works well for both solo players and groups.

Game Pass subscribers will also gain access to Tales of Kenzera: Zau (Cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S) via EA Play starting May 22. This side-scrolling action platformer from Surgent Studios draws inspiration from African mythology and has been praised for its emotional storytelling.

Surprisingly, Monster Train 2 (Cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S) launched directly into Game Pass on May 21. This sequel to the hit roguelike deck-builder strategy game wasn’t previously announced as a day-one addition, making it a nice surprise for fans of the genre.

The update also includes several other titles spread across different dates: Creatures of Ava and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (May 22), To a T (May 28), Spray Paint Simulator (May 29), and both Crypt Custodian and Symphonia (June 3). Notably, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, previously limited to Ultimate and PC Game Pass, is now coming to Game Pass Standard as well.

Your backlog is crying

As new games arrive, others must depart. Several titles will be leaving the service soon, including Cassette Beasts, Firework, Humanity, Remnant 2, and Slayers X. Subscribers looking to complete these games should prioritize them before they’re removed.

This latest drop comes during what many consider Game Pass’s strongest period ever. Recent and upcoming additions include Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Avowed, Oblivion Remastered, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Indiana Jones. The service has become particularly attractive to JRPG fans, with Metaphor: ReFantazio joining an already impressive lineup of titles from the genre.
