It turns out saying thanks isn't the same as saying goodbye.

Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez is staying put. The veteran esports host says he isn’t leaving Valorant, and he’s already named his next two stops: the Game Changers Championship and Red Bull Home Ground.

The update came after Goldenboy shared a short message to fans titled “Thank you.” Some viewers read it as a farewell. One fan asked him directly if he was leaving and when he might come back.

His answer left no room for doubt.

“Nope, not leaving!” Goldenboy wrote. “Just wanted to share my appreciation for all of you amazing people. I’ll see you at Game Changers Championship and Red Bull Homeground.”

So the message was a thank-you to fans. It wasn’t a retirement post.

He didn’t say what he’ll do at either event. Hosting, player interviews, the analyst desk, and match commentary are all possible. Dates, venues, and his exact duties are still unknown.

Streaming prodigy era loading

Goldenboy also wants to spend more time on his own channel. He said he’s “gonna try and do a few more Valorant streams moving forward.”

Then he joked that he’ll become a “38 year old streaming prodigy during the off season.”

Don’t expect a full-time streaming career just yet. He gave no platform, schedule, or start date. For now, it’s a plan to try, not a promise.

Personal streams are separate from tournament work. Nothing he said suggests the streams will replace his event appearances.

Goldenboy has one of the longest résumés in esports broadcasting. He has worked across Halo, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Valorant. In Valorant, fans know him best from VCT Americas broadcasts, where he has worked as a host, interviewer, desk presenter, and occasional caster.

Both events he named sit outside the main Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) finals. Riot launched the Game Changers program in 2021 to create more chances for women and other marginalized genders in competitive Valorant. Its first international championship took place in 2022. It’s a different event from Valorant Champions, the main VCT world championship.

Red Bull Home Ground is a third-party Valorant tournament series run by Red Bull. It usually fills the gap outside the VCT calendar, including the offseason. Location, format, and teams change from edition to edition.
