Remedy Entertainment says CONTROL Resonant will be their most ambitious game yet. It’s clear the studio is taking a big risk with this sequel, and we think it’ll pay off.

With CONTROL Resonant, we wanted to challenge ourselves to make the biggest and most ambitious game. This is not a safe sequel. We want to push the boundaries of what we can do, and we believe it’s what you, the fans, deserve. CONTROL Resonant releases in 2026. Wishlist now! #CONTROLResonant

The reveal trailer showed a major gameplay shift. CONTROL Resonant leans into third-person melee combat instead of the gunplay and telekinesis that defined the original game. The footage featured dual swords, a hammer, and what appeared to be a two-handed axe.

This marks a departure from Control‘s 2019 formula. That game made players the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, exploring the surreal Oldest House headquarters while wielding supernatural abilities like telekinesis and levitation. Combat mixed firearms with psychic powers in a third-person action framework.

Remedy built its reputation on atmospheric, narrative-heavy games. The Finnish studio’s titles blend action with horror and thriller elements while delivering experimental storytelling. Control earned praise for its brutalist architecture, shifting environments, and dense worldbuilding through in-game documents and multimedia.

The franchise connects to Remedy’s broader universe. Control shares lore links with the Alan Wake series through the FBC’s investigation of Altered World Events. Alan Wake II deepened those connections in 2023.

Swinging for the fences

Remedy is self-publishing CONTROL: Resonant this time. The game already has a Steam store page live, marking a distribution shift from the studio’s previous publishing arrangements.

The studio provided no release date during the reveal. The lack of a concrete launch window stands out given the prominence of The Game Awards as a reveal venue.
