Atlus has officially confirmed the long-rumored remake of Persona 4 during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, revealing Persona 4 Revival with a surprisingly brief teaser trailer. The announcement arrives a year after the successful launch of Persona 3 Reload, continuing Atlus’s strategy of modernizing its classic JRPGs.
The teaser offered the barest of glimpses into the project, showing only protagonist Yu Narukami walking through an empty street in the rural town of Inaba. No gameplay mechanics, combat sequences, or social features were shown, and the trailer notably lacked the series’ signature stylish UI elements or character interactions.
Labeled clearly as “early development footage,” the teaser contained no voice acting, music from the original game, or appearances from beloved characters like Yosuke, Chie, or Teddie. The minimal nature of the reveal suggests that the game is pretty early in development.
Persona 4, originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2008, later received an enhanced version called Persona 4 Golden for PlayStation Vita in 2012, which eventually made its way to modern platforms.
The game’s unique blend of turn-based RPG combat, high school social simulation, and murder mystery storyline earned it critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase. After the announcement, Atlus’s P-Studio team posted on social media promising that more updates are coming.
There wasn’t any mention of a release window or confirmation of platforms beyond Xbox, so PlayStation and Nintendo fans are left wondering if the game will come to their consoles, too.
The sparse reveal has generated mixed reactions from fans. While many expressed excitement that the remake is actually happening, others voiced disappointment at the lack of real details in the trailer. Comments across social media showed worries about the potentially long wait, with some saying 2026 could be the soonest we see a launch.
Persona 6 gets pushed
The early state of Persona 4 Revival brings up questions about Atlus’s development plans for Persona 6, the highly anticipated next mainline entry in the series. With P-Studio now actively working on Revival, fans may have to lower their expectations for seeing a brand new Persona title anytime soon.
This announcement continues Atlus’s recent habit of remaking its older games with updated graphics and features. Persona 3 Reload completely upgraded the 2006 original with new visuals, improved combat, and other player-friendly tweaks. Fans are guessing Revival might get similar treatment and possibly borrow content from Persona 4 Golden.
