Former LEC bot laner Juš “Crownie” Marušič has a new rule for his solo queue supports: stay on his screen, or the game is over.
During a recent League of Legends stream, Crownie said he’d deliberately rack up 15 deaths if his support roamed away from bottom lane. He added that he’d make sure his team lost any game where he was forced to play weakside.
For anyone not fluent in League, “15 deaths” means his champion dying 15 times in a single match. “Weakside” means playing a lane without help from your jungler or support while the team focuses resources somewhere else.
His argument was that a marksman is still completely dependent on a support, even though supports are now encouraged to roam, set up vision, help the jungler, and swing other lanes. Leave the ADC alone, he said, and you get lost farm, lost experience, lost turret plates, or a free tower dive.
Shen was busy, Bard was worse
The game in question had Crownie on Corki with a Shen support who kept leaving lane to help his solo laners. Some viewers pointed out that Shen’s entire identity is his global ultimate, and that his movement was actually feeding advantages to Crownie’s teammates.
Viewers accused Crownie of following through by running into fights he couldn’t win. Then it happened again. Viewers checking his stream later said he was intentionally dying in a different game because his Bard support had roamed instead of babysitting bot lane for the first 15 minutes. Bard, a champion whose passive literally rewards him for walking around the map collecting chimes.
Riot bans intentional feeding and game sabotage, and announcing your plan on stream tends to remove the “I was just playing badly” defense. There’s no indication so far that Riot or Twitch has taken any action against his account.
