Former Grand Theft Auto developer Alex Kane has unveiled AETHUS, a new sci-fi survival game that’s set to shake up the genre. Unlike typical survival games that focus on combat, AETHUS puts storytelling and exploration at the forefront.
Players will dive into a futuristic underground world, building customizable outposts while unraveling corporate conspiracies. The game’s narrative-driven approach means that as you progress through the story, you’ll unlock new areas and gameplay features.
AETHUS introduces some nifty quality-of-life improvements that survival game fans will appreciate. You can craft items automatically using resources from any storage crate, and even build structures directly from storage. These features aim to streamline gameplay and keep players immersed in the story.
The game is being developed solo, with the creator using third-party assets to bring their vision to life efficiently. Despite this, AETHUS boasts a custom UI and commits to non-AI-generated content, sticking to traditional game development ethics. Currently, a demo is available on Steam, giving players a taste of what’s to come.
