Microsoft has announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered version of the original Gears of War coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam on August 26, 2025. This marks the first time the iconic shooter franchise will be available on PlayStation platforms.
Priced at $39.99, the remaster will be included on day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. The release features full cross-play and cross-progression support across all platforms, letting friends chainsaw Locust together no matter which gaming system they use.
Gears of War: Reloaded builds on the previous Gears of War: Ultimate Edition with lots of technical upgrades. Players can expect 4K resolution across all platforms, 60 FPS in campaign and 120 FPS in multiplayer, HDR and Dolby Vision support, and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos spatial audio. The remaster also has improved textures, enhanced shadows, better reflections, and zero loading screens during the campaign.
The package includes everything from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition plus all the post-launch DLC at no extra cost. This means players get the full campaign (including the bonus act previously from the PC version), all multiplayer maps and modes, and the complete lineup of classic characters and unlockable cosmetics.
If you already own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox or the Windows/Microsoft Store, you’ll get Reloaded as a free upgrade. But there’s no word yet on how it’ll work for folks who own physical copies of the Ultimate Edition.
Xbox exclusives—not so exclusive anymore?
This release is part of Microsoft’s recent push to bring previous exclusives to other platforms. Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush have already landed on PlayStation, and Gears of War: Reloaded is the biggest Xbox franchise to make the jump so far. The announcement is part of Microsoft’s focus on a “player-first” approach to gaming, letting more people play on whatever system they want instead of worrying about exclusives.
The Gears franchise, which arrived in 2006 and has sold over 22 million copies, is still one of Xbox’s top series. This remaster comes as the company works on reviving the whole franchise, including the newly revealed Gears of War: E-Day prequel.
