BioWare has announced that world famous composers Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe will create the musical score for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This is not the first time that both artists work on a game togther. In 2009, both artists supplied the themes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Zimmer, known for his work on blockbuster films like Inception and The Dark Knight, brings Hollywood prestige to the project. It’s a clear sign of BioWare’s ambition to bring the game to the same level as other AAA titles in the market. Balfe, who has worked on many game scores before, including Assassin’s Creed III, brings decades of gaming industry experience to the duo.
The Dragon Age community is thrilled at the prospect of Zimmer’s epic sound entering the game. After all, Zimmer has only composed for four games in his entire career.
Nostalgia for previous Dragon Age composers is still very real. Many fans cherish the work of Inon Zur on Origins and Dragon Age II, as well as Trevor Morris’s contributions to Inquisition. The shift to Hollywood composers is a step away from their previous winning formula.
The involvement of high-profile composers like Zimmer and Balfe also hints at BioWare’s marketing strategy. Attaching big names to the project shows what impact the developers expect the game to have and who their target audience is. The community is looking forward to hear the final version of the song on October 31.
